Be Not Afraid
“Don’t be afraid your life will end;
be afraid that it will never begin.”
~Grace Hansen
However, in order for life to begin, something has to end.
Stagnation. Fear. Laziness. Procrastination. No confidence. Lack of clarity. Uncertainty.
To think that God created us to be. Someone. An individual. Filled with Spirit and Life!
And yet, we delay. We fear. We put off. We don’t move.
I can relate to paralysis. I can’t move Fear takes over. I become consumed with doubt. I remain.
“What if I fail?” “What if I disappoint others?” “Will if I lose everything?” “How can I be sure?”
We can’t be sure. We can’t predict. We can’t know everything. We can’t orchestrate the move.
We need faith. We need hope. We need trust. We need to believe.
In ourselves. In others. In the process. That all will turn out well for us. That we will grow.
There needs to be an element of mystery in the process of beginning.
To allow ourselves the opportunity to not see everything ahead, and just experience them.
In the moment. To their fullest.
To let this beginning teach us. Nourish us. Make us more faithful. More risky. More open.
When I don’t let myself die and end, then I never experience new beginnings.
When I die to those things that need to die, then I have space for new life!
Let fear be something that propels us, motivates us, not hold us back.
Because, in the end, a life never begun will have been such a waste of our Giftedness.
In the Bible, we read over 100 times, “Be not afraid.”
If it is spoken that many times, maybe we ought to listen. Every day. Be Not Afraid!
